Only the Safest for Those Baby Bottoms

Happy Valentine’s Day! β€πŸ’‹

I wanted to do a little side by side comparison of Beautycounter’s Calming Diaper Cream to the diaper cream I used on Elijah for the first 8 months of his life before switching to safer with Honest Company. I don’t have any guilt with those first 8 months, but man I sure wish I had known better. That feeling is one of the reasons I do this so that anyone that wants to make changes has the information, resources, and options to do so.

Beautycounter’s Calming Diaper Rash Cream prevents and treats irritated skin. It is scent free and safe to use with cloth diapers.

When comparing to the Desitin there are 3 ingredients that jump out at me, petrolatum that is on our Never List for commonly causing contact dermatitis. Now if that doesn’t sound counterproductive, I don’t know what is.

Talc is another ingredient that isn’t necessarily unsafe, but you need to know it’s source. We use talc in our eye shadows and blushes, but we use a certified asbestos free talc. I could not find anywhere that Desitin used certified asbestos free talc.

Fragrance is the third offending ingredient on the list and this is a big one! As you may remember, it is my favorite “F” word. It is the one ingredient I will avoid at all costs. It is considered a trade secret which means companies don’t have to disclose its ingredients, therefore hundreds of ingredients can fall under his label. It often contain phthalates, which makes the scent last and stick and are hormone disruptors. I am a huge advocate for transparency and this ingredient alone is a horrible offender when it comes to that.

With baby girl Woodland about 3 months away I am excited to try our diaper cream and the rest of our baby products on a baby and not just myself. πŸ˜‰ If you don’t have a baby, these make great gifts for expecting friends or family members. They may just not know any better like I did.
