Enhance Those Lashes Safely
Lash enhancement practices and products are not a new trend. There seems to be more products that have popped up and I keep seeing some of my favorite bloggers talk about their favorite and not so favorite lash enhancing products and lash extensions. While some of these practices, like the extensions assuming they use safer glue, are not necessarily harmful, there are several products out there that contain unsafe ingredients like PEG’s, which are often contaminated with ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane, both carcinogens, and certain unsafe preservatives. Prostaglandins, which is an ingredient used in glaucoma treatment, is commonly found in eyelash growth products. They can darken the color of the iris (blue eyes can turn brown), cause swollen retinas and blurry vision, red/brown rings around the eyes, redness in the eyes, itchy lids, and general irritation. I want to give you some safer options to enhance those lashes.First, for the past several months I have been seeing Emily at The Salon in Woodbury, Minnesota for eyelash tints and lash lifts. I already have fairly long lashes, but they are stick straight and blonde. The tint darkens them beautifully and then the lift gives a semi-permanent curl. Both last about 8-10 weeks. Most days I don’t wear mascara and you can hardly tell. It’s so liberating! I love that she uses safer products too!Now onto some lash enhancing products! The one serum that I’ve used and fully endorse is Plume Science’s Lash and Brow Enhancing Serum. It is made from natural ingredients. It keeps hair follicles in a prolonged growth phase, allowing lashes and brows to achieve greater length. It locks in keratin, moisture, and key nutrients to increase hair volume, thickening and strengthening lashes and brows at the root. And, it protects delicate hairs from environmental harm and breakage to keep more lash and brow hairs in place. I found it increased my length and my lashes appeared thicker with regular use. I will be the first to admit I wasn’t the best at sticking with it after my initial test, but that’s the simple girl in me!I also found a recipe from my favorite Wellness Mama website for a do it yourself lash enhancement serum. It’s main ingredient is castor oil, which is rich in fatty acids to enhance hair growth. It sounds intriguing and worth a try for all you DIY’ers. I’ll post the link to the recipe here. And, I found this castor oil to be highly recommended.Lastly, I want to give a shout out to Beautycounter's Lengthening Mascara, which is still being offered as one of the freebies for the Best of Beautycounter offer that ends on Friday, April 28th. It is one of the best safer mascaras I have used and I've heard from some that it also improved the health of their lashes, which helped them to grow longer. Shop for the mascara here.I hope this information helps you if you are on the quest to enhance those lashes, but want safer options!
